RESONATOR FOR DIELECTRIC CONSTANT AND LOSS TANGENT MEASUREMENTS FOR SHEET DIELECTRICS.

   Resonator is intended for measuring Dielectric Constant and Loss Tangent of sheet dielectrics by nondestructive inspection method.
Resonator allows to measure Dielectric Constant in the range from 2 to 100;
and Loss Tangent from 1 ×10-4 to 2 ×10-3 at specimen thickness t = 0.5 ÷ 4.0 mm and minimum plate dimensions of 13 mm × 15 mm.

ε = 2 ÷ 100;
Range of Loss Tangent measurement:

t = 0.5 ÷ 4.0 mm provided ε×t ≤40 mm;

δε≤± 2% • (1+ 2/(ε-1));
Accuracy of Loss Tangent measurement:
δtanδ ≤ ±10% ± 1 × 10-4 (1 + 4/(ε-1));
at accuracy of resonator loaded Q measurement
being no more than ± 1%;
Range of resonator transfer ratio:
Insertion loss of the signal passed through the resonator- 65 dB ÷ - 40 dB;

Determination of Dielectric Constant and Loss Tangent of specimens by means of a resonator is performed according to the results of measurement of the resonant frequencies and -3 dB level pass bandwidth of the resonator with and without the specimen.
The measured values together with value of the specimen thickness are put into the QBASIC program supplied jointly with the oscillator. Calculations under the said program give the values of Dielectric Constant and Loss Tangent.
The devices ensuring generation of signals in the operational frequency range as well as spectrum and frequency measurements may be used jointly with the resonator. And this test equipment can be as standard oscillators, frequency meters and selective amplifiers and up to automated systems using programmable synthesizers or network analyzers.
Accuracy of measurements of the 3-dB resonant frequency bandwidth should be not worse than ± 2 × 10-6, when setting -3 dB level with the error not more than ± 0.05 dB.
Resonator is supplied with QBASIC program for calculating Dielectric Constant and Loss Tangent, and calibration specimen.
