CAVITY FOR MEASUREMENT
OF COMPLEX PERMEABILITY IN CERAMIC SAMPLES.
The cavity was designed for measuring both relative
dielectric permeability and loss tangent of one and the same ceramic
sample. It does not require at all the use of rather expensive electronic
frequency meter.
The main characteristics of measuring device:
- operating frequency: 6000+ 1 MHz;
- range of relative dielectric permeability
measurement: 20...150;
- range of dielectric loss tangent measurement:
5.10-5...1.10-3;
- error in measuring the relative dielectric
permeability: no more than + 1%;
- error in measuring the dielectric loss tangent:
no more than 5% +5.10-5;
- size of articles under test: disks of OD=26-0,02 mm, height - 2,5
through 0,3 mm depending on the value of relative dielectric permeability
of articles.
For operation of cavity it should be equipped with generator of microwave
signals working at 6000 MHz and having output power no less than 1
mW, the opportunity to smoothly tune the output power in the range
of no less than -60dB at the power level of 1mW, and having frequency
instability not exceeding + 1.10-5.
The cavity is a passive unit with dimensions: 300x300x400mm.
For calculation of relative dielectric permeability and loss tangent
was developed a special program being the part and parcel of measuring
device.
Theoretical ground for this measuring method was presented by its
author in "IEEE Trans. Microwave Theory Techn." ·, vol.48,
pp.329-333, March 2000.
